Description
Composed in 1924, the Sonata No. 2 for solo violin belongs to a period in which the Belgian composer and virtuoso intensely explored the expressive possibilities of the instrument. Its Prelude, Obsession, draws on motives from the Prelude of Bach’s Partita No. 3, transforming them into a restless discourse, full of contrasts and imbued with an almost visionary energy.
This version for alto saxophone offers a different reading of the movement, preserving its vehement character and rhythmic drive, while allowing the saxophone to unfold its own voice within the architecture of the original.
The product includes a preface that contextualizes the work and details the adaptations made, relating each decision to the resources and gestures inherent to violin technique.
