Description
Composed in 1894, Johannes Brahms’s Sonata No. 1 op. 120, originally written for clarinet and piano and later also authorized for viola, belongs to the composer’s late creative period, marked by concentrated writing and a profoundly mature lyricism. The first movement, Allegro appassionato, combines expansive cantabile lines with a dense and characteristic harmonic fabric, in which restrained energy alternates with moments of serene introspection.
This edition presents a version for alto saxophone and piano, allowing the work to be rediscovered from a new timbral perspective. The adaptation carefully respects the articulation and structure of the original, preserving its expressive character and formal balance.
